World Pharmacy Day: Aga Khan Hospital Organises Awareness Campaign for Safer Medication Use

Dar es Salaam, September 25, 2024: The Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, celebrated the global World Pharmacy Day by organizing an event to increase awareness of the safe and effective use of medications among patients and healthcare professionals. The hospital emphasized the importance of patients being thoroughly informed about their prescriptions, promptly reporting any adverse side effects, and ensuring proper storage of medications to reduce risks and enhance treatment outcomes.

The day’s activities included engaging and informative sessions, with a special focus on pharmacy students from local colleges. These students had the unique opportunity to learn about the hospital’s pharmacy processes and patient safety’s integral role in medication administration. The sessions provided practical insights into best practices, preparing future pharmacists to approach their roles with a patient-first mindset.

In addition to the educational component, the hospital conducted surveys with various stakeholders, including patients, staff, and healthcare partners, to collect valuable insights to improve pharmacy services and medication management further. The feedback gathered is expected to refine pharmacy protocols and enhance patient experience.

The Aga Khan Hospital also used this occasion to underscore the shared responsibility among healthcare professionals, patients, and their families in ensuring successful health outcomes. By promoting proactive medication practices, the hospital encouraged everyone involved in the care process to play their part in fostering safer, more effective treatment pathways, thereby instilling a sense of responsibility.
