Dar es Salaam, October 25, 2025:  Over 800 participants gathered at the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, to take part in the East African Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EA-CwCP) Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, organised by Aga Khan Health Service Tanzania (AKHS, T). The event was a powerful demonstration of community solidarity and a shared commitment to combating breast cancer through early detection.

Held under the World Health Organisation’s 2025 theme, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters,” the walk brought together a diverse array of organisations, including MEWATA, Serena Hotel, Amana Referral Hospital, Shujaa Cancer Foundation, Aga Khan University, and Mwananchi Communications. These groups united in support of women’s health, raising awareness and advocating for timely screening and diagnosis.

“Early detection remains the most effective approach in reducing breast cancer mortality,” emphasised Dr. Harrison Chuwa, Medical Director and Senior Consultant Oncologist at Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam. “Our collective efforts are vital to ensure women have access to life-saving screening and treatment services.”

The event featured inspiring survivor stories, community engagement initiatives, and strong partnership support from the French Government, Gates Foundation, and Aga Khan Foundation. Their collective dedication underscores a shared commitment to providing accessible, compassionate cancer care for all women across the region.

Together, we are taking bold strides toward a future where every woman’s story is heard, valued, and supported.
