Advancing Healthcare: Aga Khan Hospital and Global Experts Perform another round of Pioneering Cochlear Implant Surgeries in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam, July 26, 2024: The Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with our dedicated team of audiologists and ENT surgeons, and the renowned Professor Ahmed Mehanna, a cochlear implant surgeon from Alexandria, Egypt, successfully performed a series of groundbreaking cochlear implant surgeries for children with hearing impairments. Each procedure was meticulously planned and executed, ensuring personalized care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.

A cochlear implant is an electronic device designed for individuals with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss, which is due to damage in the inner ear. These implants are particularly beneficial for those who have difficulty interpreting speech, even with the use of hearing aids. Cochlear implants may be suitable for both adults and children who struggle to understand speech despite properly fitted hearing aids.

The Aga Khan Hospital is committed to bringing advanced medical technology to Tanzania and providing high-quality healthcare services to the community. Through initiatives like these cochlear implant surgeries, the institution is dedicated to improving the lives of Tanzanians by offering cutting-edge treatments and ensuring access to world-class medical care.
