Dar-es-Salaam – 05-06-2025: In celebration of World Environment Day, observed globally on June 5th, Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST), in collaboration with The Aga Khan University (AKU) through the CHOICE Project Tanzania, spearheaded a tree planting initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.
As mandated by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), AKHST and AKU have been committed to climate change strategies since 2019. One of its key initiatives is Environmental Care, which emphasizes actions such as planting trees to protect and enhance the environment. This initiative aligns with the broader efforts to address climate change and foster sustainable development.
The initiative saw over 170 trees planted across multiple locations, including the Aga Khan Hospitals in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza, as well as outreach centres in Dodoma, Iringa, Sinza, and Mbeya.
This effort reflects the institutions’ joint commitment to fostering a healthier, greener future. By actively engaging in tree planting, AKHST and AKU reinforce their role not only in advancing healthcare but also in supporting broader climate and sustainability goals.
World Environment Day is a global event established by the United Nations to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire positive action to protect our planet. It serves as a reminder of the importance of collective efforts in building a sustainable future for all.
Together, we grow a greener tomorrow.
