Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania Supports Arusha with Donation of Cold Room for Vaccine Storage

Arusha,  June 26, 2024:  The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania, participated in a free health services camp in Arusha City, organized by the Regional Commissioner, Hon. Paul Christian Makonda. AKHS,T supported this initiative by sending a team of doctors, nurses, cardiologists, and oncologists along with mobile clinics for screening of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, addressing critical health challenges facing the local community.

In addition to offering essential medical screenings, Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania went above and beyond by donating a Cold Room (walk-in cold room) worth TSh. 56 million for storing medicines and vaccines. The Cold Room has the capacity to store more than one million vaccines at a time. This contribution not only supports the storage of vital medical supplies but also enhances the infrastructure for healthcare delivery in Arusha.

Hon. Paul Christian Makonda expressed heartfelt gratitude to Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania, for their invaluable collaboration during this initiative. He warmly received the Cold Room and emphasized its significant impact, noting that it would be dispatched to the Karatu Council. This move is set to benefit both the council’s residents and the numerous tourists visiting the area, enhancing healthcare provisions and supporting local community welfare.
