Dar es Salaam, August 29, 2024: Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST) was pleased to participate in the 12th East Africa Healthcare Federation Conference and Pharmatech East Africa, hosted by the Association of Private Health Facilities in Tanzania (APHFTA). The conference, themed “Enhancing Cross-Border Medical Referrals and Quality of Care in the East African Region,” provided a vital platform for promoting collaboration and innovation in healthcare across the region.
Day 1 Highlights:
On the first day, Dr. Harrison Chuwa, Medical Director and Mr. Murtaza Mukhtar, Head of Clinical Operations, Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam shared their insights on the need for a unified East African healthcare policy. They emphasized the importance of facilitating seamless cross-border care and elevating healthcare standards from local centers to international levels. Their contributions sparked meaningful discussions among healthcare leaders, fostering collaboration and laying the groundwork for stronger regional integration.
Day 2 Highlights:
The final day of the conference was marked by a visit from Hon. Kassim Majaliwa, Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, and Hon. Dr. Godwin Mollel, Deputy Minister of Health, to the AKHST booth. They were briefed on AKHST’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery, build strong regional partnerships, and improve accessibility and affordability across East and Sub-Saharan Africa. The booth also displayed various advancements in medical technology and patient care.
The conference concluded with Prime Minister Majaliwa emphasizing the importance of innovative healthcare solutions and stronger regional cooperation. The event served as a crucial platform for enhancing healthcare quality and collaboration across East Africa, and AKHST is excited about the future of healthcare in the region.
During the informative sessions, Mr. Hassan Ali Jiwani, Head of Outreach Services, and Dr. Mariam Noorani, Head of Paediatric Department at Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, delivered impactful presentations on medical tourism, underscoring AKHST’s commitment to advancing healthcare in the region.
